Why does Nagios puke all over my inbox?

So we (the IT group) setup a Nagios system running on Ubuntu. It monitors a bunch of our servers, and every so often we get a FLOOD of e-mails about servers going down, and immediately going right back up again.

The Director is questioning why this is being reported, and our support staff has no idea what is going on.

Since I am one of ... well, one people in the group who knows anything about linux at all, I've been asked to see what's what.

I don't know much about Nagios, but as a web and software developer, I am not afraid of it either.

So what gives? Has anyone run into something like this before? I know my question is vague, but so is my understanding of how Nagios actually works. I guess I'm just throwing this question out there hoping that it's something that comes up often... maybe some rookie mistake?

Should I work on certs, MBA, or MSCS?

I'm 34 with 1 year experience in desktop support. I've just earned my BS in Computer Science. My current position is being cut. I'm not sure what I should do next. I have been looking for any IT job,but I can't find any. Does anybody have any ideas? Work on degrees or certs? Or should I focus on one area and teach myself? Thanks.

What web based Back up service should I use?

I have several clients that are currently using mozy pro, I would like to use online backups so I can access the data remotely etc. Lately we have been having problems with mozy pro, the client will not run back ups, I have been working with support for a while now and they can't seem to get it worked out. So before I need the backups I'd like to get something else in place. Does any one have any experience with this type of service or any recommendations for a replacement service. All of these clients are using some form of Microsoft windows server 2003 (most of them are SBS) And we will be backing up 10GB to 1TB (most are under 50GB) low cost would be nice but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Simple Time Sychronization

I work at a small school with a bell system based on a clock that I am not able to change (don't ask). Therefore, for convenience sake, I'd like to have every computer on the campus to have its time synchronized with our domain controller according to a time that I set. I know how to set up the GP to synch with time.windows.com, but how do I setup our domain controller as the NTP?

Domain controller: Windows Server 2003 R2
Clients: Windows XP

Re-installing Windows

I am attempting to re-install windows on a hard drive that has a previous installation on it.

I have a SATA DVD drive with the windows disk in it, and a PATA drive with the previous installation.

Despite the fact that I have pre-configured the BIOS to boot first from the disc drive, it rolls over to the HD every time without going back to the disc drive; thus I cannot get the windows disc to run. When I remove the HD connection from the board, the disc drive kicks-in fine.

What can I do to make the dvd drive begin loading windows instead of rolling over to the HD and it's bad windows installation?

Decipher Email Header On A Spam Email
