I am trying to gather info on building my first DIY PC. I am wondering- What on the motherboard determines what the processor speed can max out at? (Ex. I have heard that it is the front side bus. If I want to put in a 3GHz processor, does the FSB have to be at least 3GHz?)
I am also open to suggestions. I am looking for a motherboard that will be pretty versatile as far as what I can put into it, so I can do later mods to it. All suggestions are appreciated.
I would like to build a PC with a 3 GHz dual core (Or more cores) processor, 3-4 GB RAM (With some space for more RAM later if possible.) So if you have any suggestions, let me know!
Thanks in advance! =)

I am getting alot of answers that either 9600 is agreat card, or its not the best way to go for a game like combat arms.

I have the hp pavilion a6614f :

This is the 9600 i am eyeing:

card info:

If i play on medium settings on a game like cod 5 or combat arms, will i atleast be able to achieve 35 frames per sec. The 9600 gt sells for about 80$, is there a better card for its price? It has a 256 bus, and it seems to have decent stats after some exploring.
I want to know if there is anything better at the same price, and is compatible with my motherboard...i was suggested a few, but after some comparing, the 9600 gt seems to be best. Please keep in mind that i will not be the hardcore gamer. The most ill ever do is probably a bit of combat arms or cod 5 or something. I just want to know will it run properly without a lag each second?
People say it can run crysis 2 with max settings pretty well, but i still want some input on whether or not i am makign the right choice

I am looking at the i5 720 2.66GHz and the i7 860 2.8GHz
Both have 8mb Caches. Both would be on a 1156 socket motherboard.
Whats the difference between them technically? and performance wise in gaming? would i need a 1366 mobo to really utilise an i7?
is the performance difference worth the £60 price difference?
