Open Question: How do I use an external drive on both a Mac an a pc?

I have a friend who has several HD videos on a pc (around120gb total) and I would like to edit them on my mac using iMovie. The problem is, my Mac only has a 40gb Hard drive (about 13gb free) and iMovie needs a lot more to handle HD videos. My plan was to get an external hard drive and use that to edit the videos but we also need the hard drive to transfer the videos and I am not sure if it is possible to use the same hard drive for both the mac and the pc. Is this possible? If so, how? I need read/write functionality on both a mac and a pc.

Open Question: Totally wipe my computer…?

My computer came with Vista on it and I've had that for like 2 years now. Recently, I got a virus on my computer which just killed it, and was advised to reformat my computer. No big deal, I've been meaning to do this for a while now anyway due to all the junk I've downloaded over the years. I also wanted to get Windows 7 on it. So I went to BB and got W7, and the guy told me to just put in the disc, select custom, and let it do its thing and NOTHING would be left on, it would be like a new computer...like I wanted. Well I've done this and 163gb of my HD is being used, and my HD state is a 2.9 so 7 doesn't want to run transparencies anymore and bla bla bla. Heres what I want to know. How do I completely wipe/reformat this computer so that its basically like taking it out of the box. (I do know that there is stuff on the HD that can be recovered by professionals and all that, I don't care, I just want it to not be taking up 163gb) If vista is on it, no big deal, I'll do the upgrade again, I've got time. Thanks in advance for the help.

Open Question: Any programs to control automatic fan speed for gpu?

I want to know if there is any program that can control the fan speed of your gpu automatically by you setting the speed at whatever temps. To over-ride the default. I know about Speedfan but that dosn't work. I want to be able to say have my fan go to 50% at say 50C instead of waiting until the gpu reaches 70C to even trigger the fan, it's the Saphire Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5. Which I've also read runs hot. Thanks

Open Question: How to open MP4 Video files on Camtasia, Movie Maker, Etc?

So, I bought this new camera, Xacti CG10, and it records video in HD. The default video file when imported to the computer is MP4. MP4 will run on Windows Live Movie Maker, but this program is crap because it doesn't do anything. Then there is Camtasia, a very good video editing software, and it can't even open MP4's. I've tried the trial of Magix and they require to pay money to use MP4's and right now I'm getting Pinnacle Studio as my last ditch effort. This is a serious problem because nothing is working and my project is past it's due date (uh oh).

Open Question: when i close itunes 9 my music disappears…..?

I recently upgraded to Itunes 9 and that is when I started having issues. I opened ITUNES today and ALL of my music and playlists were gone. I located the music on my HD and imported it all to ITUNES. Everything was there and worked fine (except for my playlists, they are still gone) When I closed ITUNES and then reopened, everything was gone, yet again. Any ideas what happened, why this keeps happening and what I can do to stop it. Thanks

Open Question: Can I run Win 7 and Win XP on the same machine if I have two HD’s?

i have a brand new computer w/ win 7, and i'm having compatibility issues with several games. compatibility mode doesn't work. an OS emulator seemed like the way to go, but that was a *little* complicated. so what i'm wondering is if i buy a second HD, install xp while the other drive is disconnected, then reconnect everything, would win 7 recognize win xp and treat it like a sandbox drive, or would i have *serious* instability issues (which i suspect is going to be the case). i have install discs for both win 7 and xp on hand. i also have a chassis that allows easy HD access. i just want to know if it will work.

Open Question: Visioneer program thinks my XP is Windows NT?

Just got a new installation of XP on a new HD and when I try to reload my Visioneer scanner program onto it I get a message saying that it isn't meant for Windows NT. It is the exact same installation disc I used on my old HD with the same Windows XP. Any ideas?
